About US

We support rural and urban poor communities in Kenya by ensuring access to clean water and sanitation facilities, promoting quality early childhood development, enhancing climate resilience and adaptation and gender mainstreaming

Our STORY

In the heart of Kenya’s rural landscapes, a group of passionate individuals came together with a singular mission: to transform lives through the Health and Water Foundation (HWF).

Founded in 2003 under the Non-Governmental Organizations Co-ordination Act, HWF embarked on a journey to alleviate the challenges faced by rural and urban poor communities. With an unwavering commitment to Health, Water, and Environmental Sanitation (WES), HWF set out to provide vital resources and infrastructure where they were most needed especially in the western region of Kenya, around Lake Victoria regions.

From the bustling streets of urban slums to the serene shores of Lake Victoria, the team tirelessly worked to improve access to clean water and sanitation facilities. Their efforts extended beyond infrastructure, encompassing comprehensive WES training for women, marginalized groups, and school children in need.

In the arid lands of Nyamira County, HWF planted the seeds of sustainability through agroforestry initiatives, distributing over 200,000 tree seedlings to bolster local farmers against climate change.

In times of crisis, HWF stood as a beacon of hope, delivering humanitarian aid to internally displaced persons across Nyamira County, supported by esteemed partners like UNCHR, UNICEF and CARE International. Upholding their commitment to societal well-being, HWF also championed Sexual Reproductive Health Rights (SRHR) for vulnerable populations, ensuring dignity and empowerment amidst adversity.

Driven by compassion and collaboration, HWF continues to write its story of impact, forging partnerships with like-minded organizations to shape a brighter future for all. With each chapter, HWF reaffirms its dedication to serving humanity, leaving an enduring legacy of resilience, equity and sustainable development across Kenya’s diverse communities.
